THE MUSIC
The Iron Giant is a larger than life animated film as the lovable giant robot is every kid’s wildest dream. When writing the music for this short, we wanted to evoke the same sense of heart, wonder, and discovery of our friendly iron superhero wrapped with a bow. We drew inspiration from the lush, sweeping melodies of Michael Kamen’s original score and infused our own sense of inventiveness and grandeur. It was important for us to find the right balance between your classic holiday jingle and a lively steampunk adventure. We created our signature sound by featuring the Halo Drum to give our tin man his heart. Working with Mason brought us back to our love of stop motion and why it is so inherently charming while reaffirming the true moral of the story — “you are who you choose to be.”

“As a filmmaker and animator, Brad Bird’s “The Iron Giant” has been a huge source of inspiration. A rare gem in cinema that balances big, bold storytelling devices while cultivating an intimate story full of heart and soul. My short film, “The Iron Giant Holiday Special” endeavored to honor that original film while adding the warm and cozy holiday elements we’ve come to love and anticipate year after year. Creating a score that could pay tribute to Michael Kamen’s original work while adding those Holiday elements was no small task. Perhaps most impressive is that they were able to deliver the score in an incredibly short amount of time. I’m talking a few days!
